Match a software engineering resume to a job description
Start with the job requirements and the work you have actually done. A keyword match helps find wording differences; it cannot establish your years of experience or predict a hiring decision.
Read required and preferred separately
Identify the language, framework, testing and delivery practices that the posting asks for. An alternative such as React or Angular does not always require both. Keep eligibility questions, such as work authorization or minimum years, separate from keywords.
Use evidence from the right role
Find the project or position where you used each skill. “Automated releases with GitHub Actions” can support delivery experience. It does not establish Kubernetes experience unless that technology was actually part of the work.
Review the edit before accepting it
Prefer a precise verb and a concrete responsibility. Include a result or number only when you can substantiate it. Never turn an example into a claim merely to raise a percentage.
Check the exported document
Review dates, contact details, projects, certifications and additional sections against the original. Keep a separate tailored version for each application so one employer’s edits do not overwrite another’s.
